title: Connect Shippo for shipping
description: Add a Shippo API key, confirm the connection, and disconnect Shippo safely.
---

Connect Shippo when you want Runner to use your Shippo account for shipping and
fulfillment. The connection uses an API key supplied by Shippo.

## Before you start

**Entry path:** **Project → Apps → Store Apps → Shippo**

You need:

- a Shippo account and a current Shippo API key;
- authority to connect that account to the Runner workspace; and
- awareness that disconnecting Shippo removes its key and disables it for all projects in
  the workspace.

Do not paste the API key into chat or documentation.

## Shippo controls and results

| Control | Why it is useful | What happens next |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Connect** | Opens Shippo setup. | Runner asks for **Shippo API Key**. |
| **Shippo API Key** | Identifies your Shippo account. | Runner checks the key format and shows an error while the value is invalid. |
| Eye icon | Lets you inspect the value for typing mistakes. | Toggles the field between hidden and visible text. Hide it again before sharing your screen. |
| Dialog **Connect** | Submits the key. | On success, Runner closes the dialog, clears the field, and changes the card to connected. |
| **Cancel** or close | Leaves setup without submitting. | Runner clears the entered key from the dialog. |
| Delete or **Disconnect** | Starts removal. | Runner opens **Disconnect Shippo?** with the workspace-wide impact. |
| Confirmation **Disconnect** | Removes the saved connection. | Runner removes the API key and disables Shippo for all workspace projects. |

## Connect Shippo

1. Open **Project → Apps**.
2. Find **Shippo** and select **Connect**.
3. Copy the API key from the Shippo account you intend to use.
4. Paste it into **Shippo API Key**.
5. If Runner reports an invalid key, return to Shippo and copy it again rather than editing
   the secret by guesswork.
6. Select **Connect** in the dialog.
7. Wait for the success message and confirm the card shows its connected disconnect
   control.
8. Use safe test data to verify the shipping workflow before relying on it for customer
   orders.

## Disconnect or replace the key

Select the card's disconnect control and read **Disconnect Shippo?**. Confirm only when it
is acceptable to remove the key and disable Shippo for every project in the workspace.

To use a different key, disconnect the current integration, confirm the card is no longer
connected, then complete the connection workflow with the replacement key.

## If Shippo does not connect

- **Invalid API key** means the value does not match the accepted Shippo key format.
- **Failed to connect Shippo** means Runner did not finish the provider connection. Keep
the key private, confirm it is current in Shippo, and retry from the card.
- If the dialog closes but the card does not connect, refresh Apps before submitting again.
- If disconnecting fails, assume the existing key is still active.
- A connected card does not prove that rates, labels, carriers, or a specific shipment
work. Verify those operations separately with safe test data.
