title: Customers
description: Search, add, inspect, and update customer contact details, addresses, and order history.
---

Use Customers to keep buyer records accurate and understand the orders connected to each person.

## Why and when to use Customers

Open this section when you need to find a buyer, add a customer record, correct contact or shipping information, or review the person's order history.

## Availability and prerequisites

- A customer can appear after checkout or be added manually.
- The list labels records as **Guest** or **Registered** when that account information is available.
- A saved Stock Location can be required by address-related store workflows, but it is not a claim that a customer address is a warehouse.
- Use customer data only for the purpose and access allowed by your organization.

## Open Customers

**Entry path:** **Workspace → choose a store → Store Operations → Customers**

Select a customer row to open a record containing the **General** and **Orders** sections.

## Main controls

| Control | Why you use it | What happens when selected |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Search customers...** | Find a customer by known details | Filters the customer list after a short delay. |
| **Refresh** | Request current customer data | Reloads the list and related location data. |
| **Create** / **Add Customer** | Add a customer manually | Opens the customer-creation dialog. |
| **Create** in the dialog | Save the new customer | Creates a valid record and opens its detail page after success. |
| Customer row | Inspect one customer | Opens contact details, shipping address, account type, and order history. |
| **General** section | Review or edit customer information | Shows names, read-only email, company, phone, and shipping-address fields. |
| **Orders** section | Review the customer's purchases | Shows orders connected to the customer, or **No orders yet**, below General. |
| **Save** | Apply changes without leaving | Saves valid edits and keeps the detail page open. |
| Back or close with unsaved changes | Decide what to do with edits | Opens an **Unsaved Changes** dialog with **Save and exit** and **Exit without saving**. |
| **Save and exit** | Apply changes and return | From the unsaved-changes dialog, saves valid edits and returns to the customer list. |
| **Exit without saving** | Discard edits after a warning | Leaves the detail page without applying unsaved changes. |
| Desktop list Delete icon / **Delete** | Remove a customer record | Opens a confirmation; confirming cannot be undone. The current mobile list does not show this action. |

## Add a customer

1. Select **Create** or **Add Customer**.
2. Enter the requested customer name and email information.
3. Review the values for spelling and the intended customer.
4. Select **Create** once.
5. In the opened record, add optional company, phone, or shipping-address details if needed.
6. Select **Save**, then return to the list and confirm the new row appears. If you leave with unsaved changes instead, choose **Save and exit** in the warning.
7. A valid new customer is automatically enrolled in **All subscribed customers**.

## Update a customer

1. Search for and select the customer.
2. In the **General** section, review First Name, Last Name, the read-only Email, Company, Phone, and Shipping address.
3. Use **Add** to add the address information Runner requests, or **Clear** to remove the current editable address values.
4. Select **Save** to remain on the record. To save while leaving, use the back or close control and choose **Save and exit** in the warning.
5. Scroll to the **Orders** section to confirm which purchases are connected to this customer.

## States and limits

- **Guest** means the record is not shown as a registered customer account; it can still have orders.
- **Registered** identifies an account-backed customer record.
- **No customers yet** and **No orders yet** are valid empty states.
- Search filters the current project only.
- Customer updates do not change historical order totals or payment states.
- Recreating a customer does not override an earlier unsubscribe or an email provider's suppression for that address.
- Delete is explicitly irreversible and currently available from the desktop list only. Confirm the displayed email before continuing and retain data only according to your organization's policy.

## Troubleshooting

- **No customers found:** Clear or shorten the search and verify that you opened the correct project.
- **Save fails:** Complete required fields, correct the email or address, and retry once.
- **You cannot leave the record:** Choose **Save and exit** or respond to the Unsaved Changes dialog with **Exit without saving**.
- **Orders are missing:** Confirm the order used the same customer record or email and refresh both Customers and Orders.
- **Customer details fail to load:** Return to the list, select **Refresh**, and reopen the row.
